My name is Tianyi Wang and I am a first-year student at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying journalism at the Hussman School of Journalism and Media.
I am planning to pursue broadcast journalism for my future career path, and I would like to further cultivate my passion for storytelling.
My Passion
Engrossing myself in literature and listening to people from different backgrounds have been passions of mine since I was young.
My fascination with stories later evolved into a desire to compose my own, and eventually into various ranges of human expression through different mediums and formal reporting, rooted in a passion for bringing untold stories to fruition.
At UNC-Chapel Hill, I am a member of UNC FACSS (Friend Association of Chinese Students & Scholars), organizing student events, working in publicity and covering stories with multi-media production.
When back in my home community, I am an active agent of change.
I am a first-generation college student from China, Liangshan, where there were poor educational resources in the region. Because of my background, pursuing equal access to education for children in my home community and beyond is a mission near and dear to my heart. This motivation to make a difference in my community brought me to volunteer as a teaching assistant for nearly four years. I aspire to give back to those children by using my passion for writing and media to elevate the unheard voices of marginalized people.
